New technologies have changed the way children spend their free time. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? In recent years, the technological advances have had an undeniable impact on how the youngsters spend their spare time. Even since this fact has put entails some positive and negative issues, this essay will discuss both sides of the argument. I personally believe that the potential benefits are worth the potential side effects. On the one hand, devoting too much time to mobiles, computers and PlayStation has several downsides in terms of health and social communication. If children prefer the technological gadgets instead of face to face communication, they will have no engagement with family members and their peers. So, they will be vulnerable and negative/cynical/diffident in social situations. Furthermore, staring at the computer, smartphones and other screens might result in dryness and eye irritation. In addition, playing computer games for many hours can not only increase the high risk of childhood obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases due to lack of physical activities, but also decrease their concentration on their homework. On the other hand, through the unlimited online resources available on the internet, youngsters can learn too much about the world and different fields of study anytime and anywhere. Consequently, they are educated to study on their own while their cognitive abilities are developed. Besides, teenagers can boost their intelligence and problem-solving skills through mind games and educational applications like Sudoku. In conclusion, although the advent of high-tech products in children’s leisure time has some downsides, I firmly believe that their upsides are more remarkable. Maedeh Mirazimi
