Research has indicated the characteristics we are born with have much more influence on our personality and development than any experience we may have in our life. Which do you consider to be the major influence? Some Research, recently, has provided a growing body of evidence that inherited genes are mostly responsible for the development of the personality traits. While, at the same time, another researchothers has have shown that the influence of nurture on in the context of identical twins. This essay would shed some light on this moot point. The genetic science in the last two decades has promoted considerably in terms of exploring the definition and application of genes in human’s humans’ DNA. Some genes have been found to be responsible for not only superficial characteristics, but also psychological ones. For instance, there is a specific gene which is peculiar to aggressive behaviors. Thus, anyone who has inherited this gene is susceptible to aggression. These studies have persuaded many scientists that heredity is the most influential factor in personality development. On the other hand, psychologists have conducted controversial research on how the nurture influences the personality of identical twins. They focused on identical twins who were separated at an early age and brought up in an utterly different environment, then, as their genes are completely equal, any controversy in their personality could be in full compliance with their hypothesis. The research has shown a significant difference in both their characteristics and their approach toward pitfalls, as apposed to the result of the aforementioned research, which indicated the importance of inherited genes. Although genetic genes has a crucial role in the development of the personality, it seems like a seed which has been sowed and is waiting in anticipation for of a suitable condition to be flourished. Therefore, genetic genes per se wouldn’t act as a role model unless an appropriate environment is provided. Hence, the complexity of the topic, necessitates more case studies and research seems to be essential to clarify the exact role of nature and nurture in our personality development.
