Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Businesses should do anything they can to make a profit. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. The world today is bursting with the ideas and businesses that are born out of economic necessity. Every business sets some clear goals that turning a profit is of great value among others. While some believe that it is necessary for businesses to do anything in order to make a profit, I think that there should be some restrictions because ethical issues should be considered, their marketing strategies may provoke reactions in the target groups and some of their activities could be detrimental to the society and the environment. First of all, capitalism has propagated the idea of “greed is good” by using many incentives in a way that Companies are mushrooming in every possible field to boost their profit. This may create an atmosphere where they may be involved in an unhealthy and fierce competition with each other to be placed in a higher positions and dominate the market. Besides, in a fragile economy where people are struggling with financial crises, some opportunists who own the businesses may think of their own self-serving motives and increase the prices with no further consideration. As a consequence, when money becomes the ultimate goal and the code of ethics are being trampled underfoot, there would be a widespread corruption everywhere. Moreover, what can guarantee the survival of one’s product in the battle for selling more is advertising. The more the marketing specialists come up with brighter ideas, the better their goods are introduced to their target groups. Although generally the ways of advertising have changed in accordance with the social awareness about public issues like racism and sexism, copywriters who are in charge of creating a noble idea for presenting the product still need to be aware about their stories so that it they hurts nobody’s appearance, beliefs or values. Therefore, the byproduct of all this would be outstanding discrimination in the society./lest Finally, when the main focus of every market is on making more money, there would be a negligence in other areas such as environmental issues. Many factories have not devised a suitable sewerage system and release their industrial waste in the clean water. What is more, implementing air filters that prevent pollution would decrease their profit margin and due to this, they overlook important measures that need to be taken. As a result, when in a situation everything is sacrificed for a quick profit, many species would be in danger of extinction and the people would have an increased chance of contracting cancers later in life. To sum up, I believe that businesses should not be allowed to do anything for making profit. I suggest that governments should impose high taxes on their income and they need to enforce strict laws for their actions. In this way, performing such activities will result in ethical societies, impartiality and a healthy environment to live in.
