Many people leave their homes in the countryside to live in large cities, what factors make people want to move to the city? what problems are caused by this? Nowadays an increasing number of people are moving from rural to urban areas in order to have better living conditions. This essay will discuss the reasons for this phenomenon and problems caused by that. First of all, people leave the countryside to find better job opportunities. with the introduction of industrialized farming and devices, demand for labor in the agricultural sector has decreased which has led to unemployment in rural areas. As a result, many young people have left the area in search for employment in urban centers. Secondly, people move to cities for more educational options which are less likely in the countryside. All major colleges and universities are located in big cities. These institutions offer majors which students prefer to study. Furthermore, there are better entertainment facilities in urban areas. Such as, cinemas, theatres, shopping malls and restaurants which are appealing for to young people. Thus, the global phenomenon of urbanization has some consequences. Firstly, cities will become overcrowded. Therefore, roads and transport systems will suffer. Heavy traffic is associated with high urban growth. Moreover, the infrastructure of cities will be under pressure. For instance, water delivery and sewerage systems will be insufficient. Besides, the urban sprawl will increase the demand for housing, employment and other necessities. Hence, living costs and crime rates will increase. To sum up, every year more and more people migrate from rural to urban areas in search for/in quest of higher living standards such as better education and career. In consequence, overpopulation, infrastructure problems and growing crime rates are unavoidable.
