A number of tertiary courses require students to undertake a period of unpaid work at art institution or organization as part of their programme. What are the advantages and disadvantages of that? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. In my point of view, there is no disadvantage in learning something in an experimental level. Nowadays, there are a lot of programmes during the academic lifetime which can be learnt not only by a professor in school but also a practical course in an institution or in the field. Some think this is not necessary and some encourage everyone to experience it at least once in their lifetime, and I might be in the second group. Getting to know the environment of the job that one is choosing helps him/her to stop flying high in the sky and put their feet on earth about it. Some youngsters study a major for a long time, and when they experience that in real life they find out that it was not something they had dreamed of! These courses will help people choose their carrier wisely. They help the students to assess themselves in reality and understand whether it is a real affection or just a projection. On the other hand, some jobs need practice to be learnt. Not only an academic experience can teach a doctor to operate on an individual in real, it is essential for him to watch too many operations and get involved while an experienced expert in doing so. In conclusion, I believe that as a sustainable development long-term program, governments should cooperate with universities to provide such institutions for every kind of job, for the young to make sure not only are they choosing what they like but also what they are able to do and are good at. This will help the society continue its growth without changing directions over and over again.
