Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country .Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. People have different views about the reasons why a foreign language should be learned. Whereas it is argued that the sole reasons behind it are either for traveling or getting a job in a different country, it seems to me that acquiring a foreign language will be of other great benefits to the learners. On the one hand, it is often thought that people feel the necessity of communicating in a different tongue on two occasions. With the advent and easiness of air travel, people, nowadays, are traveling to remote destinations outside of their own country, in which ordinarily a different language is spoken. Knowing an international and widely spoken language, not only would the travelers enjoy their journey more, but also they would be more likely to learn first-handed experiences from local people. Furthermore, the ability to communicate in a foreign language is not considered optional if one wants to apply for a job abroad. Most international companies, which intend to offer their position to foreigners, expect individuals to be able to speak, read, and even write fluently in order to have the job. On the other hand, the advantages of knowing a foreign language are beyond mentioned reasons. The availability of academic resources in the dominant languages, such as English or French, is way more than that of other languages. Mastering in these languages, students can use the enormous numbers of textbooks and papers written in these languages whether it is for a specific curriculum or for their own interest, hence more success in their education. Students mastered in one of these languages, in additions, will be more likely to have superior job opportunities in their own country, for potential employers look favorably toward knowing a second language. Moreover, the most movies, TV series, and music are produced in English. One, if wants to consume these materials, must understand the language. In brief, although work and travel can be considered the only reasons behind learning a foreign language, I believe they are not the only justifications, and plenty of other motivation can encourage people to start learning a new language.
