Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Learning a foreign language seems to be a must-have ability in the modern era. Some are of the belief that knowing a foreign language comes to fruition only for travelers and career seekers, whereas their opponents believe that it will enhance other people’s other capabilities. Pondering on this seemingly significant issue, every person might find learning a foreign language quite beneficial for some reasons. To begin with, there is a commonly held view that people go abroad for career or touristic purposes. In fact, the job seekers are in urgent need of communication skills in order to undertake their responsibilities thereby being paid as well as satisfied with their occupation in the host country. The other beneficiaries are travelers who can not only efficiently interact with locals but fully take the advantage of tourist attractions. Tourists want to speak and do their work easily in the destination country. Moreover, they need to reserve hotels, go shopping, visit sightseeing, to name briefly. To that end, they are earnestly required to be equipped with language skills. Having mentioned a few merits of being a bilingual speaker, learning another language can benefit people’s brains as well as their understandings of different cultures. To elaborate, studies show that bilingual speakers have more creativity than single speakersones, this issue stems from kids’ brain having been improved from a cognitive point of view. The more proficient in second language other than their mother tongue, the more intelligent the children are in problem solving. Secondly, language learners may have a profound understanding of the host country’s culture. They can experience new culture and customs hence more resourcefulness and knowledgeablitye. This requires travelers to communicate deeply and in a friendly manner to be involved with local community. Therefore, they can gain full understanding of their traditions and thoughts. All in all, knowing a foreign language in order for just working and traveling consumption seems to be very inconclusive. However, people who reflect broadly that seeking a second language is a must for so many other reasons are more to the point and accurate than are the former belief supporters.
