Cultural heritage is the basis of a nation's history as it represents the traditions and civilizations over a long period of time. Museums are a clear sample of symbolizing ancestors and origins of a country, hence special attention is required. As they belong to the public sector and under the supervision of the cultural department, many of them charge for admission which brings some advantages and disadvantages. I strongly believe that the advantages outweigh/are much more than disadvantages. Clearly, due to the high maintenance costs of antiques and memorials, the admission charge covers a considerable amount of expenditures. having inadequate budget, the government is forced to set this policy. Moreover, only when people spend money for something, do they understand the worth of that. It is the an undeniable rule among the public which results in realizing the importance of their assets and also it is a source of income in the tourism industry through visiting historical places such as museums. Although the benefits of charging are significant, the disadvantages should not be ignored. Some people oppose this type of payment because they think it is not fair to pay for something which is a part of their citizenships rights. Consequently it may leads to less attendance in museums. Obviously, it is not an insurmountable issue. The government can provide facilities and set policies in order to the satisfaction of people. For instance, in my country, the university students, pupils, and the retired people have a specific/special discount for admission and also in special days like national and religious celebrations, the entrance for the public is free. In conclusion, I think it is the responsibility of the public to care and keep their cultures and historical places alive for next generations even if they have to pay a small amount of fees for preserving them. |
