Overall, it can be seen that visits from and to the UK increased over 20 years, and France was the most preferable place to visit. To begin with, the number of the visitors started at a similar amount, around 10 billion, and had a rise until 1985. Although abroad visiting experienced a significant rise, it ended at just above 50 million, the proportion of overseas travelers visiting this country gradually increased over the same period to finally reach just under 30 million. The most popular country to visit in 1999 was France at approximately 11 million visitors, followed by Spain with 9 million ones. The USA and Greece were far less favored by the UK visitors at 4 and 3 million, respectively. The number of people travelling to Turkey was approximately 2 million in the same year, so it (this country) (Turkey) was the least popular country to visit for the UK residents. |
