Some people think that TV is a source of information and education. Others believe that TV is useful for entertainment only. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Some people are of on the opinion that the magic box is a useful source of data that can be considered as an open university while others do not agree with this definition and believe that the only benefit of television is for entertainment. This essay will discuss both viewpoints, and I will write about my own idea at the end. Fortunately, nowadays by using satellites telecommunication, television signals are available everywhere even in the undeveloped parts of the world and people can easily watch programs on local and foreign channels with this on‐ hand technology. One of the very clear results of foreign channels is that people can learn or improve their language skills. In fact people can easily dedicate some of their dead time to watching a foreign language program. Besides that, there some educational channels in which NGOs are trying to train people especially in developing countries so that they can learn a profession and find a job based on the lessons they learnt on the TV. Against the idea mentioned above there are some others who believe that television is causing helping people to waste their time by its interesting programs. Big entertainment companies like DreamWork Pictures or 20th Century Fox are spending billions of dollars to creatinge attractive films or cartoons targeting a wide range of people from children above 2 to adults over 70. This wide range of permanent customers usually dedicate a lot of their time to watching these products and the bad news is that due to long period of time sitting in front of TV they not only kill their valuable time, but also face a lot of health issues like overweight and lack other health problems. I personally believe that the magic box just like every other modern invention has positive points and negative ones. It completely depends on the way that we use it. If we manage it (the way we are going to use it), then we can definitely get the most of it, or else it will be the TV that manages us and it is clear that in this way the losses are not comparable to the benefits.
