Telecommuting refers to workers doing their jobs from home for part of each week and communicating with their office using computer technology. Telecommuting is growing in many countries and is expected to be common for most office workers in the coming decades. How do you think society will be affected by the growth of telecommuting. With the intensely rapid development of technology and growth of computers and also the Internet, inevitable changes are constantly happening in life routines like shopping online, paying bills with a couple of clicks and virtual communication using video chats. One of the most considerable trends of all is telecommuting that allows people to work from home instead of necessarily having to attend the office. Working from home, people can benefit in a vast number of ways. Employees may enjoy fluid work hours or another scenario can be parents with children whom are in need of to being taken care of. Companies on the other hand, will have more office space and empty desks available for people that actually are required to be physically present. Moreover, employers gain a higher chance of recruitment because they can hire people who live in different cities and even foreign countries. Apart from individuals who are directly involved in a job, other persons in the society can also take advantage of telecommuting. An outstanding example can be a significant reduction of daily traffic leading to less intense peaceful rush hours. Business districts in each city can experience less crowded days as well, resulted from smaller concentration of offices. Finally, like every other aspects of life, there are also drawbacks in this matter. As communications are becoming more and more virtual, people tend to get aloof and not willing to socialize in the real world environment; therefore, certain understandings and ground rules must be defined in order to maximize the merits perks and lessen the inevitable pitfalls.
