Governments and big companies should work together to reverse environmental damage, rather than making individuals responsible for that. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give your opinion and relevant examples. Protection of the environment should be a primary concern especially in developed and industrial countries. Although people’s role is undeniable in protecting the environment, I would argue that the government and huge industries should cooperate in saving the planet. The government plays an active role in participating in sustainable development and the protection of the environment. Firstly, the state has the power to introduce laws for industries and individuals and impose harsh punishments and fines for activities which damage the environment such as deforestation and logging. For example, in some countries like Iran there is no punishment for dropping litter on the ground, as a result some people do not care about leaving their garbage in the nature. Secondly, by improving the public transport system and imposing taxes on fuel, the use of private cars and also the amount of the greenhouse emissions will be decreased. Thirdly, media can alert people about the consequences of the destruction of the nature environment. Finally, if the government encouraged the consumers to use renewable energy sources, there would be less use of fossil fuels and therefore less harms to environment. conservation of the environment needs an active cooperation. Tackling environmental problems is a burden that the government cannot carry without big companies’ assistance. If everybody was held accountable for the difference they make to environment, there would be not such a deterioration in standards. For example, producers should avoid making over-packaged goods, decrease their use of papers, contribute to recycling and be responsible for their wastes. In conclusion, I believe that only when the government and big companies take the responsibility for li ving in harmony with nature and conserve the environment can we claim that we have taken steps to protect the environment.
