Many people believe that social networking sites (such as Facebook) have had a huge negative impact on both individual and society. To what extent do you agree or disagree? In today’s word, social networks have become an important part of any individual’s life. In this regard, there is a controversial debate as to whether the merits of this phenomenon outweigh its demerits or not. I, personally, believe that like any other social activities, social networking is a double-edged weapon. In other words, the way that each person use it can be determinant. In this essay, I will elaborate both pros and cons of this issue. On the one hand, some people opine that the social media have bridged the gap between different people and made distance relationships much easier. To make my point crystal clear, imagine a person who has immigrated to another country. Previously, hardly could he get any news from his friends and acquaintances, but today he can easily connect to the internet and see what is going on in their daily life. Besides, people can benefit from others’ experiences as they are not able to try all situations by themselves. To exemplify, searching on Instagram by hashtagging an essential word, users can easily find out all recent information about their intended subject. Last but not least, not only have these social networking websites made the communications cheaper and easier, but also they play a pivotal role in many businesses. Meaning that, they use these facilities as a device for placing advertisements, interacting with their customers and finally selling their products without any middleman/mediator. On the other hand, others feel that people have drowned in virtual relationships so deeply, which has made them forget how to interact with each other face to face, hence many isolated and depressed individuals. Furthermore, since there is no control on users' posts, many a user abuses these tools to deceive some naïve persons either emotionally or financially through some fancy deceptive pictures. To put in a nutshell, although the emergence of social networks was based on better and smoother worldwide communications, like any other human facility, misuse of it can inevitably cause many serious problems.
