Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language. There are widely different views about the main reasons of learning a new language. While some believe that it is just applicable to travels even for working or relaxation, I personally content that this positive trend can be beneficial in more situations and needs. On the one hand, it is undeniable that knowing the language of a host country is a necessary element for communicating with its people either to accommodate in settle or talk with foreign colleagues in a new workforce. Moreover, if you are familiar with the new country’s language, It should be more convenient to order your demands in malls or restaurants than count on a translator or communicate with gestures. Therefore, when you can almost speak their language, you would feel less alienated with people in a new place. On the other hand, in my belief by picking up new languages, there are some additional merits that we can fully take advantage from. Speaking various languages, people are likely able to reach mutual understanding among different nationalities. which would mean that since language is an integral part of every culture, this positive trend virtually tend to unite people from all nations. Hence we would live in a peaceful and friendly world. Finally, in global trade, like importing and exporting goods, acquaintance with other languages would soften the hardship of making relationships and would potentially expand transactions between business societies. In conclusion, I think it is an essential necessity for every individual to learn useful languages especially international ones. As the borders between countries become increasingly blurred, it demands out further consideration.
