Measures have been put in place to improve road safety by reducing the speed limits. Some people believe there are better alternatives. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Road accidents in this day and age have become one of the leading causes of death and injuries resulting in enormous costs to societies. While many are in favor of a variety of methods to reduce the current rate of accidents on the roads, others, however, strongly hold the idea that respecting the speed limit laws can increase safety of vehicles and their passengers to an acceptable level. This short essay will elaborate on both viewpoints along with the author’s perspective. That excess speed is one of the main culprits of car accidents on roads is an indisputable fact. Eagerly looking to find an effective way to reduce the fatal accidents on roads, ministry of roads and urban design of Sweden spent so many hours studying on this issue which led to smartly stricter rules which have significantly reduced the rate of fatal accidents on roads. Many people believe speed control can influence both the risk of car crashes and its consequences on roads. On the other hand, those who are in favor of other methods argue that only when a combination of rules be are followed, can we expect to see an impressive result. Fastening the seatbelt, I think, plays a pivotal role in saving passengers’ lives. Wearing a helmet and using a child safety seat are another other two important factors which are mandatory in many parts of the world. In addition to these, many claim that not only does introduction of stricter drink driving laws can save the drunk drivers’ life but also it can save others’ lives. By way of conclusion, I think only focusing on exceed excessive speeds is not sufficient to make the vehicles a safer transport means/modeoption for both drivers and passengers. Reduction of car accidents demands a wider range of restrictions along with the introduction of laws. I think/reckon it is incumbent upon governments to improve road and infrastructure safety in addition to raising public awareness.
